Cancer from chromium? - Cancer Message Board

Hi,

About four years ago when i was 18 I worked in an electroplating plant chrome plating metal, I was working there for about 6 months 40 hours a week, I used to stand over the tanks filled with chromium and nickel allot, breathing in the fumes.

Would this give me a bigger chance in getting some sort of cancer?

Darren,

In short: no. Although chromium is a known carcinogen at high doses, it is also a naturally occuring and necessary compound that you body uses. Your exposure was extremely brief, and workplace regulations are fairly strict as to the levels of such chemicals people may be exposed to, at least in the U.S.

Is there a reason you're concerned about this?

Just me worrying that’s all.

The guy that owned the place didn’t do things by the book….
There was nothing limiting how much crap I was breathing in, apart from me holding my breath some times…..
