Sisters with cancer Please Help! - Cancer Message Board

Three years ago my 45 year old other-wise healthy sister died from Ewing's Sarcoma, which presented as a tumor on her spine. They never found cancer anwhere else in her body until the end when it spread all over. Now my 47-year old sister has been diagnosed with lung cancer (she has smoked for 30 years) They have also found it in her liver, and a lesion on her hip. They say the cells are non-small lung cancer. Do I need to be concerned about myself? I am 45 and a healthy non-smoker, but scared . There has been no other cancer in either family the last couple generations, but with two sisters in their 40's....

If anyone has any words of wisdom or knowledge I would appreciate it.

hello, I am so sorry to hear about your sisters, I also have two sisters and I would be devasted if they had anything wrong with them. I am the sister with cancer, and I have no idea how they feel. We are very close, I imagine all kind of things go through their heads when they think of my diagnosis. Anyways, I would be concerned on your part, I am sure your doctor would understand if you explained to him what kind of cancers they had and your concern for yourself. I am positive he would be very willing to help you be tested routinely and go through some issues that concern you. You can never be too conscious of your own health, good for you for being real about this all! Good luck and I hope you never have to deal with cancer like your sisters did.

I too had a brother to die from non small cell squamous carcinoma of the lungs and it seemed to have spread upward from the groin maybe beginning in his bladder the doctors thought.After he died, I went to my doctor and was given a thorough check up with colonoscopy and everything you could think of. I came up with a B-12 and folic acid deficiency which could have eventually compromised my body for cancer. It is a good bet that you can prevent some things that you ordinarily would not have thought about if you use this as an opportunity for a good checkup. The doctors will be more than happy to do this since your familly history of cancer is so profound.
