Hey guys, I am new to the board...
I am only 22, but I am a bit concerned by some lingering symptoms here...I was diagnosed with gastroentitis (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) about a month ago, and was to told to basically take it easy for a week and let it run its course, that rest and the B.R.A.T. diet would make it go away...I had some pain in the lower right quadrant for a couple months before I was diagnosed with the GI virus, so I know there is something else going on there. I still have some discomfort/pain there, and sometimes it even tingles, almost like it feels my stomach was sleeping...I have also had some facial flushing on and off with mild fever, never over 100.5...I also have had fatigue that started around a month ago when I first went to the doc...I have lost about 15 pounds during that time period, and my appetite comes and goes...I have a slight case of scoliosis, and have had back pain off and on, but now I seem to have some sharp pain once in a while to the right of the spine on the upper right side...I have been in and out of the doc's office and have had 2 rounds of bloodwork, ekg, echocardiogram, halter monitor, all showing normal results....The doc also said my sinuses are swollen, and I sometimes have a sinus drainage that has some blood in it, and I seem to be coughing to clear my throat more now in the past week or so...I have had some on and off feelings in my head, basically on the right side around the ear, not really pain, just more like a sensation, sometimes tender to the touch, and also some pressure within the ear...and I have a mole on the upper right arm, which I think has possibly grown a little and possibly split in two...I could just be really paranoid and anxious about all this, as I have had 3 deaths in the family in the past 7-8 months....I am still seeing the doc, and he is sending me to a GI specialist next month if he can't figure it out, but it is nervewrecking because I know some of these symtpoms match up with cancer, especially the weight loss...I also have a shaky bowel schedule, often constipated, sometimes diarrhea, and yesterday there seeemed to be some mucus there...There is a history of colitis in my famlily, so any of my stomach issues could be separate from the other symptoms...sorry to go so long here, but things aren't moving fast enough with my doc, and I am getting anxious....any response or advice from anyone here who has experienced anything similar would be great...at 22, should I really worry about this being cancer, or is it just anxiety about all of this stuff that is making me blow it out of proportion???? I think this is too many symptoms all at once to be cancer, because I was told by a friend that even though these are all symptoms, they wouldn't all start at the same time like that...by the way, I do not smoke, I am pretty active, and have been relatively healthy prior to all this...I think I might want a CT scan or something for peace of mind...thanks in advance!!!

Re: Cancer???
Hello! Sometimes our anxiety can cause us to be sicker than an actual illness. Try to relax a little. (I know, huh, it's easier said than done) But all the stress isn't going to help you. I think your idea about the CT scan is a very good idea. Also, another suggestion would be to have a colonoscopy, so the docs can see first hand whats going on in your intestines, and if something looks suspicious, they can biopsy it. I'm 26 now, was diagnosed with stage 3c uterine cancer at 25, and have suffered with colitis and radiation proctitis since last year. I've had 2 colonoscopies in less than a year, they really aren't that bad. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck...and go out and have fun and do something you enjoy. I know first hand how hard it is to wait on results and doctors, but your worrying isn't going to change anything. Good Luck and Take Care.
