Does anyone have 2 primary cancers?

From out of nowhere a routine colonoscopy found colon cancer in the sigmoid colon. I had my surgery 11/4 . 2 out of 5 lymph nodes were positive. So my schedule was prepared by the chemo dr and that very day I had an endoscopy and I have esophageal cancer. So the chemo for the colon was put off as the esophageal cancer is so agressive they need to deal with it now. Both the surgeon and the chemo dr are very puzzled at this combination, never having seen it in their practice. I have had every test there is for the esophagus and the colon and they are not related ,not metastisized from each other. Does anybody have this ? I have to go in on Mon. for pre admission and to see the anesthesiologist and to have sugery on Wed. 12/15 to have a port surgically implanted in my chest and a feeding tube implanted in my stomach. Then they will try to shrink the esophageal tumor with chemo and rads as it is not safe to operate on it now. It has broken thru the esophageal walls and is too risky to operate on right now. Also on the CT scan the surgeon sees a spot on my liver. It might be a cyst , but might not he says. I do not have a clue why all this is happening . I have no cancer in my family and have not lost a bit of weight nor do I look sick. I do have painful swallowing from a motility disorder of the esophagus for a yr, but this cancer appears to have only been here about 4 weeks. I am really scared. I just don't know how many primary cancers a person can survive. Does anybody have any answers? Lia

Hi Lia,

So sorry to hear of your news. It takes courage to write about it, never mind having to deal with it.

I question the statement that the esophageal cancer was only there for a few weeks. Did you have an endoscopy when the motility disorder was diagnosed to check for a pre-cancerous condition called Barrett's Esophagus?
I wonder if you could have been better served...

Did you have your gallbladder removed a few years ago?

Did you ever have a diagnosis of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is
sexually transmitted?

Sorry that I did not get to your post sooner... Hope you are back soon.

May the Force be with you...

Ron

Re: Does anyone have 2 primary cancers?

Hi, Ron. Sorry to be so long getting to your post . I just got home from the hospital yesterday. This feeding tube is the absolute pits and I just hurt from head to toe. My new FT job is prepping , cleaning , filling , etc. this horrid tube . Yes Barrett's has been checked for since last Jan. 1 and as late as the day of the manometry. Not there. I have never had HPV either. Curioser and curioser . If I ever build up my strenghth with this feeding tube I will start radiation in hopes of shrinking the tumor enough to remove it. I'm afraid I am less hopeful all the time. Thank you for answering. Lia
