Post PET scan "lit up" means what?

My wife had a PET scan yesterday. They were looking at a lymph node under her right clavicle. The area came back negative.

However the doctor advised us that the PET scan "lit up" in her mouth under her toungue.

Does lit up mean there is cancer there?

We go back tomorrow to see the oncologist but i'd like to know ahead of time to be able to prepare for my wife and how she may take this news.

Thank you for any help

Jason
