First let me start by saying Hello

and sorry to trouble you.

Ive been reading some posts on throat cancer and your posts popped up on quite a few of them,Im just wondering if you would be so kind as to take a look at my post on this board SICK WITH WORRY ,ive read uve been through cancer so you may have some knowledge on the subject.Im having a hard time getting in to see ENT even tho im wanting to pay private they cant find my referal letter

(IM IN THE UK EVERYTHING TAKES TIME HERE)

My hoarseness isnt there all the time BTW it comes and goes.
And the lumps are on the back of my neck at the right side which confuses me.

I read your post. It doesn't much sound like the hoarseness I had with cancer of the right vocal cord six years ago. That can best be described as feeling like my voice had turned to mush. I could clear the hoarseness up temporarily by forcibly clearing my throat, but then the "mushiness" would return very quickly. I knew that persistent hoarseness lasting more than two weeks was a possible sign of cancer, so I dashed to my ENT who indeed diagnosed cancer after a biopsy.

Believe it or not, I went to an ENT yesterday complaining of hoarseness and a general feeling that something wasn't right in my throat, symptoms that have persisted for about a month. He scoped my throat and vocal cords and said everything there looked fine. However, he did find that I had a substantial sinus infection and has put me on an antibiotic. And I feel better already.

I trust that your ENT will also scope your throat when your appointment finally arrives. Frankly, I doubt that the lump on the back of your neck is associated with your hoarseness and sore throat, but for goodness sakes, point it out to the ENT.

Although I've had my throat inspected yearly, I confess to being apprehensive about my latest problems. It's amazing how anxiety subsides when a good doctor looks and says that there's nothing to worry about. And I suspect that you will turn out to have something that can be cleared up relatively easily.

Sorry to run on at length, but I know the apprehensive feeling when something doesn't feel right in the throat area, and sympathize with you.

I thought to myself the lump on the back of my neck can't be connceted as its in the wrong place right? tho i will still point it out to the ENT (when i ever get to see him)My ears also hurt sometimes

I have a question for you if you don't mind?

How old were you when diagnosed?

I was 71 years old when throat cancer was diagnosed. I had 33 radiation treatments, which seem to have been very successful.

I had smoked fairly heavily in my younger days, but had quit about 15 years before. The oncologists seemed positive that smoking is what was responsible. The ENT who did the biopsy said the cancer was aggressive, but still confined to the vocal cord, so I was very fortunate in that regard.

Go entreat or bully the ENT to find the referral letter. For your own peace of mind, you deserve a speedy resolution of your concerns.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for answering my questions,i myself have quit smoking and never ever will i light up again!,its just not worth it.

Im planning to bully the ENT on friday i had the receptionist going through the mail bags ha ha!,she explained that there was 4 bags maked from urgent-to routine and they only got sorted once a week charming eh! peoples lives/problems are sat in mail bags!.Shes meant to be ringing me back on monday if shes doesnt then i'll ring her!.

Im glad your story had a happy ending to it and i wish you good health for the future.
