Cervical Cancer Question? - Cancer Message Board

Hi,
My sister had cervical cancer 3 years ago and had chemo-radiation , My question is she has not been back to the dr. due to husband lost job, but borrowed money to see the dr. and he ordered a cat scan of her abdomin, and it showed she has her right kidney is swalloned and that she has gray matter around her pelvis. He wants to take care of the kidney first and then the pelvis. I am very concerned about the pelvis, he said maybe the cancer came back or it can be scar tissue fron the rad-chemo, so we dont know till the test are done. She went for the test for the kidney I think they called it a tracker where they gave her a Iv and watched the way it traveled thru the kidney. Has anyone ever heard of this gray matter around the pelvis? If so please respond.

Hi,

I *think* that we normally have "gray matter" aka - nerve bodies, which show up gray on imaging - in the pelvis, but that it can be hard to distinguish between normal gray matter and tumors on occasion. I hope that things go well for your sister. Have you investigated Medicaid and/or other options in your state? If she is diagnosed with recurrent cervical cancer... she can always apply for SSI or SSDI and should then be covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

Thank You for your reply. Yes we did get afraid when we heard gray matter, but the dr. also said it could be from the radiation.Theydid a cat scan of her kidney, she has not gotten the results yet, he said he will deal with one thing first, and the right kidney is swallon, so he did cat scan first. We are praying that the gray matter is from radiation, we will have to wait and see.
