Pancreatic or something else?

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if what I'm experiencing could be pancreatic or not.
First I'll give a bit of background....I'm in my early 40's, I've been hypoglycemic for 8 years, I have a thyroid disorder for about 4 years, I do not drink or smoke.
I have lost quite a bit of weight since about January, going from about 121 to 109, I get pain in my upper left side, just below or under my rib cage, its not severe but is a bit of an annoying pain, sometimes worse than other times, sometimes the area feels sore inside. I had the pain back in Feb, March, April, much worse than it is now. I eat often due to the hypoglycemia, yet loose weight. My thyroid disorder is hypo not hyper. Sometimes I feel a bit nausous and sometimes I can press on the area and it feels tender, but not always. My dr has done tests for lypase and amaylase, both came back normal, she also did an hpylori for bacteria, came back normal.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

When i was about 15 I had pancretitius 'sp?' to flair up on me out of no where.. My symptoms were.. severe nausea, sharp knife like stabbing pains on the left side a little under my rib cage and the pain would wrap around all the way to my back...It was awful the only thing I could eat was cold marshmellows ..Praise God he healed me from that.. I did have a point there..lol
I could be wrong , but i dont think its your pancreas b/c when that thing flairs up you know it for sure... It makes its self very clear hey something is wrong.. I would have your spleen checked out...If its enlarged it can be tender to touch and cause pain..

Re: Pancreatic or something else?

Hi skitty. I had those same symptoms. Recently had CT scan that revealed pancreatitis. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Pancreatic or something else?

I had to go to EM for a Pancreatitis attack, I was put on a liquid diet, and pain drugs. For relief. Does anyone have more information in helping their pancreatitis recovery. Naturally or otherwise. I know it can reacur as my friend is having a reacurring pain from this. I have been lucky so far. Had this about 2 years ago, the same time my friend had her attack.

Re: Pancreatic or something else?

skitty:

I had severe pancreatitis in 1978. It was caused by a gallstone blocking one of the pancreatic ducts. I don't remember the pain being severe, but it was the left side under the ribs that was involved and the nausea was terrible.

It necessitated emergency gallbladder removal, and it was months before I felt well again.

Were I you, I'd insist on imaging to eliminate the possibility of pancreatic involvement. Your loss of weight certainly would justify a closer look at the situation.

Regards,
Bill
