 Tonsil Cancer?
Good evening all. I am new to the boards and have found some great advice and help from everything I have read.
I recently have discovered, a few weeks ago, that one tonsil, my left, is larger than the right.
When I first noticed the tonsil, my only symptoms were those of post nasal drip (which is a regular thing), tonsil stones (in both tonsils), and jaw pain with a mild sore throat.
Since being on a two week course of antibiotics, all symptoms have resolved and the nodes under my chin that were slightly swollen have also decreased in size, they are very soft and hardly noticable to sight or touch.
My concern...the tonsil is still enlarged. The antiobiotics have obviously not helped, and I am concerned.
I first approached my PCP who assured me it was nothing like tonsillar cancer and not to worry...a week after meds, still swollen, still having some symptoms, stil, was told not to worry. I then, being a concerned worried mommy, called and made an appointment with an ENT Dr near my home. Who too, suggested I not worry about the tonsil and focus on my allergy and sinus issues. The problem? HOw can I not worry when this tonsil isnt getting any smaller, or better? Is it possible that asymmetrical tonsils can be caused from sinus drainage and/or tonsil stones?
I was told by the ENT if I was that paranoid about it that he could remove the tonsil and he said, "it really looks benign to me, and not like what you have seen or read." So, anyway..my question, has anyone else gone through this. Does the asymetrical enlargement go away? WIll it go away? Should I opt for a third opinion from another ENT, or possibly tonsillectomy?
BTW, I am a 26year old female, good general health,history of strep and ear infections as child, occaisional social drinking, non-smoker...
any advice would be appreciated
