Question Signs and Sx of Throat Ca????

My father told me today that he thinks he has throat cancer. He recently had an abnormal chest x-ray which will be repeated next month when his insurance kicks in. He just started a new job, never had insurance before. He is a heavy smoker (3 packs per day) he will not quit. He keeps losing his voice and has a lot of new hoarseness. His lung capacity is not as bad as he thought (had a pulmonary func. test) but he is my best friend and I'm not sure he will get checked out. (kind of stubborn) I was just wondering if anyone has had the same symptoms and if so, was it throat ca? The probability of lung ca is evident. He is only 57 but he has smoked since he was 15. Any words of wisdom?

Has he seen a throat specialist? I had vocal cord cancer in 1996, and had 33 radiation treatments. Persistent hoarseness is a cancer danger signal. Caught early, throat cancer can be treated successfully.

Please get him to go to an ENT doctor to see what's going on.

Regards,
Bill
