Re: brain ct scan for my son please i dont want to lose my son

Your doctor is correct. He will get more radiation from flying in a plane than from a CT. I've had brain CT's and chest and abdominal and all sorts of x-rays and I don't have any cancer....and it runs in my family. If anyone is going to get cancer from a test that uses radiation, it should be me and I don't. I will be 60 this year.

Relax. The chances of him getting cancer from a single CT are about zero. Listen to science.

hugs mom.....dry your tears and love him............Jenny

Re: brain ct scan for my son please i dont want to lose my son

I don't know... I had a head and neck CT scan awhile back, with contrast.
While I'm concerned about the level of radiation I was exposed to, I don't feel like I'm about to imminently drop dead of cancer or anything.
Everybody gets CT scans sometime during their life.

Wise people limit their CT scans- especially when they're young- and have them only when strictly necessary, because it's a sure bet you'll need some when you're old, and you don't want to be exposed to too many during your lifetime.
It's the cumulative effect of having many CT scans over a lifetime that really raises your cancer risk significantly.
I think the risk from one CT scan is pretty negligible.
Take a deep breath, Mom. Everything's okay.

Re: brain ct scan for my son please i dont want to lose my son

I can't have MRI's so I have had quite a few ct scans. 4 of my brain in the last 2 years, and 3 of my abdominal area and 2 in my back. The last scan I really balked because I was scared since I have had so many so close together. I was told there is more radiation exposure on an airplane. I needed to have it done.
Your son is VERY low risk for damage from that scan
