My daughter is 6 years old and has had swollen lymph nodes in her neck for about 3 months. It started out with just one on the back of her neck and now she has a couple more that are on the left side of her neck and behind her ear. The one behind her ear is small but very hard. She has recently started itching her head like crazy. I have brought her to the doctor 3 times to have her evaluated. Each time they tell me her body is just fighting an infection. She has no other symptoms. They didn't do any blood tests or x-rays. I guess I am just wondering if it is common for them to be swollen for so long and to keep developing new swollen nodes? Should I get a second opinion? Should I request any tests? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, absolutely get a second opinion...and they should definitely be doing tests. Most common infections don't take 3 months to go away. It could be mononucleosis, it could be something else, but how the heck are they going to tell if they don't do any tests?
Thats what my gut was telling me, but after 3 visits and nothing I was starting to feel like I was being paranoid. Also we don't have very good insurance so these visits are out of pocket for us...that is why I finally decided to post on here so I could get others' advice
