Throat Cancer?

In late December / early January, I had some allergies / head cold. After that mostly cleared up, I started experiencing what felt like post nasal drip, except that I wasn't always runny nosed, and at times it almost felt solid. I developed a sore throat which has persisted for several weeks now. I have an urge to swallow a lot, and sometimes (not all the time) it feels like I'm trying to swallow something but it just won't go away. Other times it feels more like my throat is simply dry and/or sore.

I'm 30 years old, non-smoker, very light drinker (two or three drinks a month, at the most). I'm concerned it could be early stage throat cancer. Related to that, anyone know roughly what it will cost to get an endoscopic exam of my throat / larynx?

Re: Throat Cancer?

Hey..

You need to borrow or beg for the money. Mine cost me $465.00 but I could have paid $100.00 up front and they would have billed me for the rest. You need to get in there and get checked.

If it is throat cancer the hospital will set you up with this new Healthcare program called PCIP Insurance.

Please, don't wait. Throat cancer is beatable but when sysmtoms appear you are usally in stage III or IV...that's the nature of throat cancer....so you may think it's early stages, but it may not be. I hope it is nothing. If it is throat cancer I hope it is early stages.

I felt much of what you feel...after two rounds of antibiotics they wanted to do a CT scan ..boom. Stage III base of tongue cancer with one lymph node invovled. I just finished up treatments 3 months ago and I go in for my PET scan to see how the treatments did.

I don't want to scare you, but throat cancer is a very hard course to go down ...the treatments are terrible, but I would do it all again. I have a wife and chidren.

Also, if you do have throat cancer, do your homework..HPV + virus throat cancer (is most likely what you would have based on your history) responds better to treatment than cancer related to drinking or smoking ...but stop drinking now so if you do go through treatments your body is better able to fight with you.

Re: Throat Cancer?

Doubtful, but a trip to an ENT should be planned.
