I have posted here before in referrence to my Morton's Neuroma, which is very painful. At my last appointment I was given 4 injections into my foot. I was given Lidocaine and Steroid. I was also given two orthodics to put in my shoe. My Podiatrist told me that she would see how long this lasted for me. If it did not then I would be elligeable for surgery to have the tendon cut or have the Neuroma removed. I'd rather have it removed. I was pain free for only a day.
I returned today for my F/U appointment. I didn't see the same doctor. This sometimes happens when going to the VA.

I told the doctor about my previous appt. She examined me and could feel the neuroma. She told me that I may not be elligeable for surgery because of my Raynauds, Fibro and my back problems. I was like what??? I can understand the Raynauds to a point but my Fibromyalgia and back problems. Can anyone explain this to me or has anyone ever heard of this as being a reason NOT to do surgery for a Morton's Neuroma.
She told me to get wider shoes and do foot stretches.
That's great but my right foot is smaller than my left ( the one with the neuroma). If I were to do that than the shoe on my right would be way too big. Some of them are slightly big now on my right. It's not like a shoe store is going to let you buy a 6 1/2 for one foot and the next size up for the other. HELLO!!! Also I don't always wear shoes. I wanted to ask her if she wanted me to tape an Orthodic to the bottom of my foot , so that I could walk around my house.

Any suggestions?? Would it be worth it to see a Podiatrist on the outside?

First of all, NEVER have the ligament release. The success rate is extremely poor and there are huge problems down the road with the bones not being held together properly. Next, the injections should be an alcohol solution, not cortisone. The VA docs are evidently way behind the times on treatments for this problem. Next, you should not go without shoes with this condition. And last, but not least, if you opt to try an outside doc (and I strongly suggest you do) then find a podiatrist OR ortho surgeon who specializes in sports injuries to the feet. If you are in a city with a pro football or basketball team or a prominent Division 1 College program, call and find out who they use. Good luck.

I remember your post from last time. They definately told me it would be a removal but because of the Raynauds I have, along with my Fibro and back problems they can't do the surgery to remove it. That part I don't understand. I can understand the Raynauds to a point but not the other two conditions. They have nothing to do with my feet. The Fibro does effect the muscles but it would eventually heal and quit flaring in time.
I also mentioned to her about the alcohol injections and she said they do not use them at the VA. Also because of the Raynauds she would not use them on me because it would cause it to flare. So, I'll be seaking another opinion. I can't live with it the way it is and I can't go up a shoe size due to the other foot being slightly smaller than the other. Which I also mentioned to her. Guess she wasn't getting my point. I also can't put orthodics in all of my shoes. They won't fit and a lot of the newer shoes are built so that you can't remove the insert. Thanks again.

I know nothing about the Reynaud's so I really can't comment on that. But do try to find someone with the type experience I outlined...
