Lana...Hang in there. I am in the same type of situaton as you are, diffrent illnesses but same feelings.
My fiance of 6 years was injured at work 5 years ago and has since developed some serious health issues. He is Diabetic, Epileptic, has Glaucoma, Diabetic Retonopathy, Nerve Damage in arms, legs, neck and back, and memory loss and problems, and as you said possibly others yet to be found.
He broke his neck in 3 places and his back in 2 places, and suspect damage to hips also.
I have been by his side through all of this and watched many others turn their backs. All but one of his kids have totally cut off contact and the one we do hear from is 800 miles away, he has been up 3 times to help when I felt as though I couldn't go on anymore.
We have 3 of my 4 kids still at home so they are here to help as needed, but they are 10, 13, & 14 so we try not to ask a whole alot, it wouldn't be fair. They have been great and really pitched in to help when needed.
I also understand about him being a hard worker and having a hard time adapting to all of this. I am 36 and my Fiance' is 46, he always work more hours than most other people I knew and refused to let me work to help. After his accident he was devastated. And it killed him to let me go back to work outside of the house, which was short lived due to his health so for the last 4 and a half years I take care of him on a fulltime basis.
I have spent many late hours crying and asking God why on earth this was happening? Then a very dear friend told me that The Good Lord wouldn't give me more than I could handle and that I was the best one to care for him. Now that didn't stop the nights of crying but it did help to make it more tolorable.
Take care and God Bless both of you...Tammy
