Husband has Tongue Cancer spreading - Caregivers Message Board

My husband has tongue cancer. We have had surgery in Feb. gone through radiation from Mar. 13 to May 1. On May 2 a check-up with his surgeon led to biopsy and the need for more surgery. When we went in to set up the surgery a suspicious bump on the outside of his neck prompted more biopsies. The results were positive for cancer and the prognosis is not good. Surgery is not a viable option at this time and we will start chemo to try and slow down the progression of the cancer and hope for 6 months to a year.

The pain (combination of radiation sores and new tumors and thrush}is horrid and we have just switched to a patch.

Can anyone tell me how you know where you are when you are facing this kind of a prognosis.

I am trying so hard to keep things under control but the rules keep changing.

My father has 6 months to a year left. (If he keeps his weight up) I am so sorry to hear fo this tragady in your life. I don't quite understand your question but will do my best to answer. How I knew where I was with this diagnoses and time left....I don't know where I am. I take of my father as mcuh as I can. Between work and my family it is really hard to do it all. I know he will be okay when he passes. That will be the only true freedom he will have. You just need to be strong. It must be hard to take care of him in that way. knowing what will come. I pray for your comfort in his passing. I hope you and your husband can spend the time left in great happiness and understanding. That's all you got. That is all I have with my dad. The time "left". Just talk and love eachother the best you can.
