Dad held hostage for $50.00 paperwork fee
My dad was effectively held hostage, discharged from in-patient rehab but unable to be admitted to assisted living until I paid a $50.00 (yes, FIFTY dollars) paperwork fee for legally madated paperwork his primary care doctor's office neglected to send, despite days of pleading from me and staff at the assisted living facility. I had to leave my dad, sitting in his w/c with his packed suitcase, go to the dr's office and stand there for a long uncomfortable time to get them to FAX the required report, which could not have taken the dr. more than 10 minutes to complete. I am certain that the paperwork would not have been sent if I had not come to the office and stood there until I had confirmed with the assisted living facility that it had been received. Even in person, I got the same run-around as I got from repeated phone calls, since I was told at one point the form had been sent, only to call assisted living to be told it had not been received. People at the dr.'s office either ignored or were very brusque and huffy with me.
