son went off meds
My son is 28 and he has been diagnosed w/schizophrenia for 9 years. Two years ago he had a colostomy. He was in and out of hospitals for 3 years. His most recent hospitalization was to go into the hospital to get off his meds. His doctors and support team want to be supportive but feel he needs his meds. He has been clean and sober for 5 years now and attends AA every day sometimes 2 -3 times a day. This past fall he took a course and received his CDL. He was excited about achieving his goal and signed up for a course in Indiana and once the training was finished they find you a job. Well, because of his meds he was on, consta injection every two weeks, the company felt that he was a risk even though he had a doctor's note that the meds would not affect his driving. To make a long story short they sent him home the same day he got there...20 hours on a bus. His mission when he got home was to get off his meds and go back to Indiana and fullfill his dreams. Well, he did it and is now in Indiana. He has connected with AA there and goes to meeting. I support his decision and I want him to make it without his meds. I worry about him and I call him almost every night to make sure everything is okay. He has been through so much physically and mentally. I guess I just needed to vent. Is it possible for someone that was dx go off there meds? I really want this to work for him!
Any comments would be helpful. Thanks,
