Unhappy carer for my wife who is bipolar

i know the condition is very difficult for the person diagnosed as bipolar.

i find it very difficult as a husband and carer for my wife who is bipolar.i am struggling with depression myself as a result of trying to deal with my wifes setbacks and problems.i have supported her way beyond what any reasonable person should need to .i am the buffer between her and the rest of the family who would disown her if they new what was really going on.i only stay because we look after our grandchildren regularly. the big problem is she drinks sometimes when we are looking after them .i have lied on so many occassions to protect her.and it hurts so much to do this to my family.i know it is only a matter of time before it all falls apart.i will then be left with nothing

Re: carer for my wife who is bipolar

My heart goes out to you, but isn't it time to openly discuss the problem with your family? I have a feeling they are well aware of your wife's bipolar condition, or at least the fact that she has personality and drinking problems. You may find that they are much more sympathetic to your plight that you give them credit for. I also suggest you post on the Bipolar board above. Many of them have or are going through what you are. You shouldn't have to deal with this alone.
