Help for a brain injury caregiver
I'm new to this site and message boards in general, but felt this was worth a chance. I am 41 and I am taking care of my 55 yo husband who contracted meningitis in 2005 and now has short term memory lose, lose of executive brain function, severe mood issues and constant pain. I am burnt out and tired of going to doctors and more doctors and nothing is getting better or different. Would love to find someone to chat with that understands my situation. I have a few close friends but they don't live this every second of every hour of every day.
Worn down and ready to run :(
Re: Help for a brain injury caregiver
I know exactly what you are going through. 4 years ago my husband was diagnosed with a fatal neurological disease. I took care of him up until last year. He is only 45 and in a nursing home. I just could not do it any more. We have children and I work full time. You are right though, people don't understand. Our lives are on hold while everyone else is out living theirs. I know this sounds selfish, but I fear that by the time I'm able to move on I will be too old!
