It depend how long u waited for & how old are ya? Its not so much that it grows & "fills-in" the gaps, its more like the median nerve which runs from ya kneck through ya hands & into ya fingers, thickens & gets too compressed... You shouldnt jump straight to surgery, ive heard many doctors say u should try to be persistent in every other way first! Such as vitamins, physiotherapists, chiropracters, massage therapist e.t.c Apparently u lose alot of grip strenth permanently & surgery should, if possible, be avoided & only be used as a last resort dude! Hope that helps. Write a reply. John.

Question Re: can anyone tell me what happens to the tenden they cut after surgery?

I don't think they cut any tendons. It's the ligament that gets cut. The ligament forms one side of the carpal tunnel with the carpal bones forming the other three sides. It's the swelling of the overused and inflamed tendons that puts pressure on the median nerve.

Surgery and therapies often fail because everyone is chasing the symptoms in the wrist instead of looking at problems further back in the shoulder and neck. Especially if you are a stylist. It's also important to check for and correct postural distortions like a tilted pelvis or shoulders.

Also therapy needs to be followed up at home with a good flexibility regimen. Active Isolated Stretching is an excellent program developed by Aaron Mattes and popularized by Phil Wharton.

I totally agree with u Plymouth, even though i havent been to no test & stuff. My kneck has been hurting & my shoulders, so your saying that i can be healed properly if the problem is corrected there because in most cases surgery fails because the cause is often in the kneck, which is often over-looked right? You were very helpful in this post of yours. Can u tell me what type of therapy should i seek out, Chiro's, Physio's or massage therapists? Thanx Ply.
