Neurosurgeon or Orthopaedic Surgeon? - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

My mom was recently referred to a neurosurgeon for carpal tunnel surgery. Do any of you know when a neurosurgeon performs this surgery instead of an orthopaedic surgeon? Thank you in advance for your replies.

Orthos work with joints and neurologists work with nerves. As CP involved the nerves, then a Neruoligst is your best bet.

I had my CTS surgery done successfully by an orthopaedic surgeon. Many of them specialise in hands/limbs. I would imagine that either specialist could be equally trusted to cut the ligament & stretch the 'sleeve' away from the nerve. There's also different degrees of skill amongst all orthopaedic & neurosurgeons. I'd just head for the one with the best reputation.
