I had severe Carpal Tunnel in both hands and right trigger thumb release surgery with CTS Surgery. After the surgery on each they gave me occupational therapy on both hands really on one my employer wouldn't approve for the second. I continued to have pain in my palms, under my thumbs, up my arms and into my shoulders,in my fingers, I can't close my hands all the way or open them all the way, it is hard to drive and the pain will increase,I can't open jars, pick up things, hold my child or grandchildren or do the things I use to do. Since I was still having problems the Dr. ordered a Functional Capibility Evaluation which took 4 hours and I received an imperiment rating of 40% damage in my hands and 42% damage in upper extremities. The occupational therapist said I wasn't able to use my hands and was using my shoulders more to make up for it and causing damage to them. This was done from Feb. 2000 to Sept. 2000. I still can't pick up over 5lbs. or do the things I use to do. My employer changed my job but I found out the other day from another NCV/EMG study that I have Carpal Tunnel again in both hands and now there is something going on in my neck and shoulders and they want my PCP to schedule an MRI. I've had to fight my employer all the way and you can read about all this in a previous post. What I am trying to say is please have your husband take care of his hands they are the only ones he has. If he has to go to a neurologist to check with them or after his hands have healed from surgery ask them to do a FCE and get him an imperiment rating. This will go with him the rest of his life and will affect his whole life. Repetitive Motion Injuries causing Carpal Tunnel are nothing to play with and too many employers take it for granite. If the nerve was pinched off too long you can have permanent damage and the pain will never go away. I hope I have helped you some.
