Exclamation carpal tunnel symptoms can be from hormonal imbalances

I had severe carpal tunnel symptoms with thyroid imbalance.
It is a very common symptom.

I am just passing along the info below...I frequent the Thyroid Board if you want to know more.

Here are some very good places to seek treatment:

U.S. & World Report has listed the top fifty hospitals
for hormonal disorders:

Re: carpal tunnel symptoms can be from hormonal imbalances

Hi Tree Frog!

I am being investigated for Thyroid problems (going to the doc tomorrow). Ive been operated for Tarsal tunnel problems (about 5,5 years ago).

Already 10 years ago, my doctors always thought my thyroid looked very large, but tests always showed they were fine... But now I had an ultrasound taken from my Thyriod... and it doesnt look good. So hopefully they can figure out some more.

But, do you think that my tarsal tunnel problem could be linked to the thyroid problem?

Im curoius now...
Best regards
Siv Cath

Re: carpal tunnel symptoms can be from hormonal imbalances

My Dh has hypothyroidism -- he repeatedly went to his doctor over a course of 8 months or so and was never diagnosed until he wound up in hospital and the specialist figured it out.
He has since had both wrists done for CTS, one thumb for trigger finger, and is having to have his elbows done. All as a result of undiagnosed hypothyroidism! If he had been diagnosed, it may not have been any where near as bad

Re: ca***l tunnel symptoms can be from hormonal imbalances

Hi!

I was treated for Tarsal Tunnel Syndrom in the summer of 1999. But I didnt then have the symptoms of any tyroid problems. However, a few months later, I was investigated for severe tummy problems...
Which is something Im still struggeling with. I got diagnosed IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrom) in may or was it june...

Now they are investigating for a broken tyroid...
I will keep an eye to your posts etc... and as soon as I know what they will do to my tyroid problems, I will post about this in the tyroid department...

Siv

Re: carpal tunnel symptoms can be from hormonal imbalances

Tree Frog,

You make a very good point. I went to my GP about 13 years ago with carpal tunnel symptoms and a small puffy place under one of my eyes. Doc immediately said he was sending me for thyroid tests....told him fine..but what about my wrist and puffy place under the eye?....he said that studies have shown that the two, carpal tunnel and thyroid problems go hand in hand, so to speak. Sure enough, my thyroid wasn't working AT ALL...my numbers were off the chart...higher than he's ever seen. Been on Synthyroid since and thyroid levels are under control...but carpal and ulnar problems did require surgery a couple of months ago....but symptoms were very much controlled for years before requiring surgery. Thyroid imbalance also plays havoc with cholesterol levels!
