Unhappy now i have pain in my neck!!!!!!!

i am waiting for an appointment to go to get a nerve test done [three months!] because i get pains/swelling in my hand and arm have been for nearly a year. now for the last week i have got a pain at the back of my neck as well.l went to see a GP yesterday a different one to the first one i seen. and he thinks its golfer`s elbow and not carpol tunnel. he gave me a cortisone injection at the base of my thumb anmd one in my elbow. he said it might help with the pain til i get the nerve test then we might find out what it really is. today the pain in my hand and arm seem better but this pain in my neck is still there. anyone know why.

Cool

Hi Trisha Rose
Howzitgaun? Well that's my education for a Sunday morning. I didn't know anything about Golfer's Elbow so did a search & now know that it's similar to Tennis Elbow. If it's the inside of the elbow it's medial epicondylitis (Golfer's) & if it's the outside of the elbow it's lateral epicondylitis (Tennis). It would appear that most cases are caused by neither golfing nor tennis! I did read though that either can indeed affect your neck & golfer's elbow can radiate right up to the neck or be caused by a neck injury & go right down to your fingers. Guess that's because the nerves originate in the neck & travel right down to the fingers.

I'm surprised your doc didn't refer you to a physio. I know they have them in the Health Centre up there beside you because I got sent there when I lived in Loanhead. Having said that though, I recently had to wait around 6-8 weeks to see a physio in Bonnyrigg.

If you do a search on epicondylitis you might find something you can do to help it meantime e.g. warm/cold applictions or the like. I hope you don't have to wait much longer to get to an expert as your problem sure aint getting any better in the meantime. No more bowling though I'd say - probably not good for it!
Best wishes.
Lidia

Wink

hi lidia
thanks for answering. today is the first morning in months i have not had to take a pain killer for my hand/arm. the pain in my neck is stil there but pain killers don`t do anything for it.
i seen a very good physio in penicuik a while ago for my hand/arm she did acupunture and all sorts on me. i went for 6 weeks. it did help a bit with the swelling but came back. so the dr sent a letter to the hospital for me to go to the hand clinic.
i have been thinking of going to see a private physio about this pain in my neck cos if i ask the dr to make an appointment at the health centre i know i will wait weeks!!!!! i will wait a few more days to see how i feel.
i have started taking B6 in the mornings like you,
by the way i grew up in Bonnyrigg!!!!!!!
guess you are right theres no way i am playing ten pin bowling just now i will just have to watch!
nice to chat wi you again
cheerio the noo
trisha

Don't know if this suggestion will help, but you might do some searching, particularly in your upper arm, looking for VERY tender spots (usually no more than 1 inch x 1 inch) which are very small knots in muscles which can refer pain (& cause swelling) anywhere from the neck to the hand. (Actually this can also happen in any part of the body, but we're talking arm here.)

When you find them, you can do a massage yourself at those points either with your knuckles supported by a tennis ball on a table or by a hard rubber ball about tennis ball-size on a table.

You need not do this massage for longer than a minute, but should do it at least six & up to a dozen times a day for several days. What you're doing is "ironing out" these knots so blood can flow again. The massage should be in short, deep, sloooow strokes & in one direction only. Doing it often but for short periods is the key.

If you have further questions, let me know.
