Teens with CTS - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

Hi

I was just wondering if I'm the only teen who has been diagnosed with CTS? I was 16 when I was first seen by a doctor, and 17 when the EMG was done, and it was confirmed. I wore a store bought brace from when I was 16-17, but it didn't improve, so they made a cusom brace for me in the OT department in the hospital. It didn't help much, so my surgeon said that once it starts to interfere majorly in my life that I should have the release done. I'm 18 now.

So yeah... anyone else my age around here?

I'm not around your age but nobody has replied to your post so I thought I'd say hi & wish you well with your cts problems.

It used to be that cts was thought of as a problem suffered by women of around age 40 with hormonal changes but now it's becoming far more common in people of your age. Here in the UK I've read that young people are having big problems with their thumbs from texting too much. Hand problems are on the increase too because of computer games & too much keyboard use.

I hope your hands are helped by the splints & that your problems wont continue for too long.

I'm 16 and have it.
It interferes a lot in my life simply because almost all of my classes involve typing and two of my three jobs involve it as well... very painfull and I've tried to cut bak as much as I can on typing without losing my jobs... so it's hard.

I'm a musician, and I play guitar, piano and trombone. Trombone doesn't affect me much with my CTS, but Guitar and Piano sure do, especially guitar. As well, I study online, and I work at a hot dog store where I squeeze condiment bottles all day...

It sucks to think that this is something I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life.

I am 19 years old and have carpal tunnel syndrome as well. I not only use the computer a lot, but I sleep funny. I sleep with my wrists bent which has put a lot of strain on my wrists. I have some splints but I don't always use them like I should.
