I had a second surgery on my left hand on Monday, Dec. 19. I went to a unrelated hand surgical group for the second surgery. The surgeon talked with my husband after. Surgeon said there was a lot of scar tissue from the first surgery as well as some entrapment yet. He took care of both of those issues as best he was able. He said there was some nerve damage. My husband didn't ask if surgeon thought it was from the previous ct release, but my symptoms of aching, burning, numbness and hypersenitivity were new after that surgery. surgeon did say, nerve damage has a better chance to recover, though, since he removed scar tissue and entrapment. Doesn't mean it will ever recover fully, but I had normal feeling in hands after I would shake them, before the Feb 2005 surgery; two fingers and part of palm have been permanently affected since.
Mayo doc in Sept told me it was old nerve damage...no entrapment and to go home and live with it.
I don't have the really bad pain I had after the first surgery. In fact, ibuprofen is taking care of what little I have. I can use my hand and fingers a lot more too...I can even carry a cup of coffee with my left...and close car door. I am on Amitriptyline yet, for the nerve pain in hand, so they may be helping now. I was put on that in Sept. by my primary doc.
I'm supposed to be doing finger stretching exercises a lot throughout the day to keep scar tissue from forming.
