Had EMG Today - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

I had the EMG and nerve conduction tests done today. The Nerve Conduction part was uncomfortable, but that was offset by the humor I saw in my hands twitching when he gave the jolt. lol Then he started the EMG part, he poked one hand, then the other, and I suddenly became very hot and felt ill, so I had to lie down for a few minutes and he finished the test with me lying down so I wouldn't faint or get sick. I guess mind over matter is true - I was so worked up over this whole thing. Anyway, he finished the test and let me sit up for a couple of minutes before he sent me to the lobby to sit for another 5 minutes before I got in my car and drove home. He said that there were some irregularities in the tests but it's not really serious. He'll send the results to my Doc and he'll decide what treatment I'll need. I'm just glad it's not serious, but I hope I don't have to wear splints on my elbows or wrists that keep them perfectly straight at night - it will be so hard to sleep with those on! Anyway, that's how the EMG went. I see my Doc on Jan. 2nd.

You're the first person I've 'met' who felt the way I did. How funny is it to see your fingers jump when you're not controlling them? I'm sorry to hear that the rest of the test had that effect on you though.

I decided just to live with the CuTS as the outcome was similar to yours. I wake up most nights with 'dead' arms but once you get used to it, it's just part of you. I just remove splints in my sleep! My surgeon (who did my CTS surgery) also has CuTS & lives with it. The surgery success rates aren't high enough for his or my liking.

Make that a third :-) I also found it slightly amusing - along with the obvious annoyance. I also have decided to not go through with any surgery yet - I've got CTS both arms. I also pulled splints off in my sleep - so I just deal with the numb arms as well.

Just wanted to tell you you're not alone :-)

I had the nerve conduction test done before my surgery and I was worried that the electrical impulses would hurt. They didn't. What hurt was when he used the accupressure needles to see what I could and couldn't feel. When inserted into the back of my right arm it hurt. But, when inserted into the the back of my hand I FELT NOTHING. zilch. I never even noticed my hand was swollen until I was down in Florida with my hubby on a golf course and the lady behind us asked why I wasn't playing and when I told her I had CTS, she looked at my hand and said it was swollen. I took pictures of before and after. Surgery, for me, was a piece of cake because I was put to sleep. IT's the recovery that is harder. Not that it's painful exactly, but putting on a bra is impossible with one hand. My solution: a few exercise bras that I wiggled into one handed.
