How long is recovery after carpal tunnel release

I'm going to have surgery 1/20/06 ,the Dr. called it carpal tunnel release . Does anyone know how long it will take to recover from sugery ? It is suppose to be a small cut in palm of hand. The Dr. said it is higher than a 50/50 chance on it .

Re: How long is recovery after carpal tunnel release

Higher than a 50/50 chance on what?

Recovery seems to depend on individual. Recovery on my first CT release
( right hand) was abut 6 weeks. "Recovery" on my second ct release ( left hand) was about 12 weeks for most part, but still had lingering problems/complication....
I just had left hand done again ( it was done in Feb of 05 first time) and recovery is better. A LOT less pain post surgery. Majority of my recovery should take about 6 weeks. I have a lot more strength post surgery this time around compared to Feb surgery...but current surgeon says it may take up to a year for nerves damaged from Feb surgery to regenerate...or they may not recover at all. I'm not to lift anything oer 1-2 pounds yet, until I see doc this week. It will be 4 1/2 weeks post surgery.

Re: How long is recovery after carpal tunnel release

I started physical therapy 6 weeks post op in mid March 05. I think I should have started sooner, but there seemed to be a communication problem between the physicians asssistant( I saw post surgery) and the orthopedic surgeon...or no communication?

I went 3 times a week for the first 4 weeks...then 2 times a week for the next 7 weeks. I hit a plateau in progress and stopped. Insurance wouldn't pay unless there was progress. I went once a month for the next three months just to see if there was any progress, albeit a slower rate. In August, I was told it may or may not get any better. At that point, I was around 80% of what I could do pre surgery ....and decided to seek another opinion.
This time around( same hand done Dec 19 05 ) I started physical therapy last week. I am going once a week for a month. On the pinch test in March, I could do 2 pounds starting out....I did 28 pounds last week. Hoping to get to 50.
