Cause of CT in both hands????? - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

Hello to everyone,

I am going through a lot of medical testing for head pressure, burning, numbness etc. etc. and anyway during all of my test (which are all negative) I had am EMG and discovered that I have CT of both hands. Question is why would I have that. I do not have a job where I would get this. About 8 years ago I had a job for a couple of months that could have caused it in my right (which is the hand I use) but not my left. Does any one out there know what else could cause carpal tunnel? I have had so many tests for other things. MRI of brain, c-spine, T-spine, MRA of brain, eeg tons of blood work, complete heart work up etc etc. Just thought some one could shed some light on causes of carpal tunnel.

Causes can vary.........for some people the simple task of dishwashing can cause CT.....anything you do repetitive can be irritative to the nerves or actually it is the channel in which the nerves run through that gets tight......

Hi my carpal tunnel in both hands was probably caused by rsi due to constant typing at speed for years.

Inflammatory problems in the body can also contribute to cts.

Diabetes can be a cause, if you have arthiritis in the family or with youself, than can also be a contributing factor.

Hi,

I too have CT in both hands... I went to my Neuro, and he told me to wear the hand splints 24/7 for 5 months.(what a pain) I now only wear them for bed, and I have to say that I have improved about 80%. Still get some tingling and numbness, but not much. When I do, I wear the splints for awhile. I refuse to have the surgery.........I will wear the splints for the rest of my life if need be, but NO surgery for me. Neuro told me that you can get CT in both hands because of anything, or because you get it in one hand, and start to switch using hands to relieve the other. Thyroid problems can also cause CT....

Sid - I have to tell you this, I tried splints and to be honest did nothing. I now wear long thick socks, sometimes two up to my elbow, at night to keep the area warm, now I never wake up with numbness or pain.

Try it istead of the splints, it really works for me.
