Could this be CTS?

Past few months I been experiencing alot of pain in my right wrist especially at night. Say I go to cover myself up it hurts my wrist really bad and it feels like I really can't move it. It feels like its locked. Sometimes the pain goes into my fingers. For most part the pain stays in wrist area. During the day it doesnt really bother me just when i first wake up I cant really move my wrist around much for a little while.

I thought maybe I injured my wrist but i dont recall any injury to the area or maybe it was arthris (sp)

Yesterday I bought a wrist guard to see if that helps. I slept a little more comfortable than i have been.

Re: Could this be CTS?

Classic symptons are usually (according to my GP) ;"pins and needles", with the index and middle fingers usually being the first to be affected. "pain or aching" in the same fingers may then occur, as may numbness of the fingers. Symptons can be mild or severe (yours sounds severe) depending on how "squashed" the nerves are. But symtons sre definately worse at night. Sooo it certainly sounds like CTS Visit www.patient.co.uk.

Re: Could this be CTS?

Thx for responding

I don't have a regular doctor I follow with. So I don't really know what kind of doctor I need. Orthopedic/Neurologist or a regular family doctor.

thx

Smile Re: Could this be CTS?

It doesn't really scream CTS to me. I had it in my left hand and had the release surgery, which was a blessing. I have it in my right hand also and am scheduled for surgery next month. The typical symptoms are pain, numbness and tingling in the wrist, thumb, index finger and middle finger. It rarely extends into the ring or pinky finger. When you sleep on the shoulder of the hand afflicted with carpal tunnel, you wake up often with a cold "dead" feeling hand. Sometimes mine is completely numb. I have to shake it out for a few minutes to get the feeling back into it. You can do a simple test to see if it's carpal tunnel. Take your hands and press the backs of your hands together with your fingers hanging down toward the floor. Keep them pressed together for a few minutes. If you begin to feel tingling and numbness down your fingers, you probably have it. See a neurologist or orthopedist to discuss it. But since your pain is located and confined to just your wrist, I doubt you have it. It could be arthritis or tendonitis. Getting the splint was a great idea. Use that and take some an anti-inflammatory like advil for a week or so. If imobilizing your wrist doesn't alleviate the pain, along with the advil or aleve, make an appt. with your Doctor. Simply cases of tendonitis will usually go away on their own unless you've torn a ligament. Arthritis can be controlled with advil. You Doctor can always give you something stronger if you need it. Good luck, I hope you figure out what it is!

Re: Could this be CTS?

I am 21 now, 3 years ago when I was a senior in high school my right index finger started twitching at random times. I usually ignored it and thought I was just stressed out with college apps and what not. The twitches would be short, painless and would come every couple months - sometimes not even at all. In my freshman and sophomore years at college the twitches would stay the same except they would last a little longer. Since they were not coming repeadetly I would ignore them. My junior year I started working a lot more with computers from 9 to 5 - Monday through Friday, I am sitting in a desk, infront of a computer doing entries and letters and so forth. Now my twitches have increased in time length and in frequency. They develop every few days, and last anywhere between a few hours or even a day. Somtimes my arms will fall asleep while I am sleeping and they are crossed or bent and I will wake up from it and have to lay them out straight. The biggest change that I have seen with my index finger twitching is that it has developed all day yesterday, all night last night, and it is now 12:39pm in Maryland (where I am from) and it is still twitching, also, sometimes rappid but soft twitching has developed into my left index finger. I thought I'd look it up online before I made an appt. with my doctor. Could this be carpal tunnel? Or maybe something else?
