Post CTR and woke up with my hand numb! - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

I'm 8 weeks post-op from CT release surgery on my left hand. Since surgery, I've woken up twice with my pinkie and ring finger numb, which I know is from pressure on the the ulnar nerve. (I had a problem with that too before my surgery.) I wasn't too concerned about that, as I know the surgery doesn't help with that problem.

But this morning I freaked out when I woke up and my whole hand was numb again, just like it used to be before my surgery. Does this mean the surgery didn't work? Or could I just have overused my hand yesterday and had a bit of swelling that put pressure on the nerve? Has anyone else had this happen? What do I need to do? Help!!

Oh, by the way, another interesting development occurred this evening when I was out shopping with my husband. My index finger and thumb on my left hand (the hand that just had surgery) started twitching by themselves. It was weird!

Has anyone had this happen? I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow and see what he says.

I would say it has more to do with how you slept on your hands overnight. If you still have this problem, go back to using splints while you sleep and see if the numbness stops. Don't overuse your hands in the first year. Otherwise, you'll end up like me--now diagnosed with tendinitis in both hands. My cts surgeries were in mid and late 2005. Overdid it in April 2006 when I helped my husband remodel 2 bathrooms.

If you curl your hands when you sleep - it could very well aggrevate it.

I would use splints - or be sure to place your hands flat.

I had the same problem, including some weird feeling (not tingling, more like needling). I've gone to sleeping with my arm raised up.

Has anyone noticed their thumb swelling up with the slightest bit of work??
