Surgery 7/30, please read!... - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

1.5 yrs ago I started with the tingling, pins and needles, etc. I have done 3 or 4 rounds of shots (each time they worked for less time). I don't have tingling now, even when they have me do all the maneuvers in the office. Now I have severe pain going up the outside of my arm. I also have sore wrists. An emg was negative, but he said that doesn't matter. I tried a week of steroids, helped shortly and that was it,

The doc says it's still CTS (both arms).

I am scheduled for surgery on july 30th. Has anyone else JUST Had pain, not tingling??? I am so worried that he is wrong and this surgery will not help. I have 2yr old twins so this will be very hard.

Hello, "Merry". I have severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and had the right Carpal Tunnel Release on June 10, 2008. I am still awaiting the left Carpal Tunnel Release surgery. The surgeon told me that it could take anywhere from one to two years to fully recover from the severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I also have muscle atrophy in both hands. I actually had to be "put to sleep" because my hand was not numbing up. I also couldn't drift off to sleep with the other other medications they gave me. I wore a soft cast for two weeks, before getting my stitches taken out. My right hand is still going numb and is still painful, but I know that it will take some time to fully recover. I may also not get my feelings back in my thumb and index finger. I pray that your surgery goes well and that you have a fast and pain free recovering. Usually they only give the patient a local anesthesia.

Oh boy Tam. I hope you do well with your recovery. 1-2 years? Is that just because of how severe your case was?

Hello, "Merry". My recovery time will take longer than most patients because of the severity of the CTS that I have. I had the left Carpal Tunnel Release surgery on Tuesday of this week. I, of course, am still slowly recovering. I hope you have a "pain free" day.
