Question about steroid injection: - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Message Board

I received a steroid injection in my wrist a few days ago for carpal tunnel syndrome. The next day, I woke up with my hand really swollen and a sore wrist. Now the swelling is gone but my wrist is very sensitive to touch. Also, I have this constant tingling in my fingers. Has anyone else had experience with the injection and if so, how long did it take you feel improvement? Thanks for any advice.

Hi rlhay, I had injections in both wrists today and have had injections in the past, 1 & 2 yrs ago. I don't remember having the swelling that you describe with my past injections, but I definitely have had (and have) sore wrists and have had mild inflammation/swelling. If I remember right, it was about 5 days before I felt better and past a week before I noticed improvement with my CT (it's suppose to be less, 5-7 days, but things seem to always move slow with me). Since it's your 1st injection, I'd call your orthopedist's office just to let them know how you're doing and ask if it's all w/i the realm of normal (I think it is, but it's always nice to hear your doc say so and a call is a LOT easier than an appt).
I hope the injections work for you. They have for me in the past.

Thank you for replying. The swelling did finally go down and the soreness has improved--I'm like you, it took over a week for it to feel better. I'm scheduled for another injection in the other wrist, so at least now I know what to expect. I wonder how long it will be before my symptoms come back--your injection helped for a year?
