I took an emg last year and it didn't detect carpal tunnel, but I notice after I wake up from naps my wrist and thumb joint get stiff. Then it starts to twitch (the thumb pad will twitch super fast and I see my thumb tremor)... I also get pins and needles. What could this be if it's not carpal tunnel?
The thumb and index finger are innervated by the C6 nerve....the only digits controlled by the C6 nerve. Time to have your neck checked to see if you have a herniated disk or some arthritis that is pressing on that nerve. You don't have to have neck pain to have a neck problem. And it can affect one side of the body and not another. Or both. But tingling and numbness are classic symptoms if carpal tunnel is not involved.
The emg test isn't perfect!!!
I recently read that the emg gives false negative results (saying you dont have carpal tunnel when you really do) about 40% of the time. False positives are much lower.
You should send a message to Dr. Walker at the Carpal Therapist and maybe he can give you more info. Cheers, Mizzle
so what's a person to do when the EMG comes back negative? Are we just supposed to live with this pain because the test isn't perfect? Please, anyone with suggestions about this let me know.
