Exclamation burning sensation in hand

I had Carpal Tunnel surgery back in 2008 on my right hand. The last month or so, I have been getting this burning sensation between my thumb and index finger, at the web. I got a shot of steroid two weeks ago because the doctor thought it might be tendinitis. But it didn't help and it's getting worse.

Now, I can't flex my thumb very well. It's gotten progressively worse in the last 24 hours. I have been trying to practice flexing my thumb to touch my pinky and now my thumb won't even go that far. And I can't spread my thumb out very much to make the "L" shape. It's more of a "V".

The inability to flex my thumb happened in 2004 on my left hand and I had to have immediate surgery to prevent further damage. But this is the first time that I have had a burning sensation at the web between my thumb and index finger. I'm not having pain anywhere else though.

Is this carpal tunnel? Or something else?
