If the CTS is caused by acute inflammation Prednisone can work. It is for short term use however. Another option is to get a steroid injection into the carpal tunnel, where it can work directly where the inflammation and swelling is. It would be reasonable to try a short course of Prednisone, stop any aggravating activities, possibly wear a splint for a week or so to restrict movement of the wrist, and see how you do. If it is a chronic problem the injections are very effective, but somewhat painful to get. A few seconds of pain is worth a few months of relief in my opinion.
