Consider celiac disease cause - Celiac Disease Message Board

I always had anemia as a child and thirty years later discovered it had been caused by celiac disease. In the meantime, a lot of permanent damage was done to my body because doctors (even a gastroenterologist) didn't recognize the true problem. If you are having painful digestive symptoms, especially, suggest the celiac test to your doctor.

Hi Monte,

Have just read this post and wonder if my wife is suffering from this.

Not quite sure what you mean by painful digestive symptoms, but my wife sometimes has bouts of diarrhea and suffers excrutiating lower belly pain after eating. I can sometimes also see that her belly becomes very bloated.

Please let me know if you think this is the case and I will talk to my wife about it and try and get her to see our doc to get it checked out, which she has not done.

YES! Check this out with a gastroenterologist. It sounds like steatorrhea, a symptom of celiac disease. I had painful bouts of diarrhea-like symptoms that felt like a hot knife in my lower abdomen. . . until I went on the gluten-free diet. Celiac disease can lead to cancer, and also to terrible birth defects if your children inherit it, as well as ruin your current quality of life, so definitely see a specialist right away.
