Fast before blood test for Celiac? Do I need to fast before a blood test that is testing for celiac disease? I plan to go to a night clinic that opens at 6pm so trying to figure out whether or not fasting is necessary. Also, to note, I want them to check other things (glucose, cystic fibrosis, or pancreatitis) since all my symptoms seem to be very similar to the aforementioned diseases. Thanks for your help! |
Re: Fast before blood test for Celiac? No need to fast for anything, but a glucose is best done 2 hrs or more after eating, otherwise it may come back elevated. |
Re: Fast before blood test for Celiac? Actually, you need to eat gluten so they can test for antibodies against the protein. If you fast beforehand, you may get a false negative. |
