swim without float aid? - Float Pool - - Cerebral Palsy Message Board

hi guys, i've been reading the thread for a while. was just thinking of a project that makes use of the properties of the Dead Sea. people are able to float in the Dead Sea naturally coz of the high salt content...so i was thinking of formulating something like that so that people with disabilities can swim hassle free without swim aids..how do you guys think of an idea like that? would you be encouraged to swim knowing that you won't sink?

I swam once in a pool that used salts instead of chloride to keep the water free of bacteria. The pool was in California but it was based on Australian or New Zealand technology. The salt content was similar to ocean water, not as high as the Dead Sea, and there was a continuous circulation of the water to make the system work. For some reason the water remained very cool, even in 90 degree weather. It was great!

My nephew, who has CP, LOVES to be in the pool and I'd definitely be interested in anything that allowed him to swim without aids.

I have CP but so does my friend but her condition is alot worse than mine. She learned how to swim when she was younger. I didn't because I have this enormus fear that i'm going to sink and drown. I would like to think that is the reason why I can't let myself to learn how to swim. But I love the idea. It would be totally cool to be able to float with no device.

Sasha, its never too late!!

I know how to handle myself in the water, but hey I wouldnt mind going 5ft in a pool + knowing that I will not drown
