Could it possibly be CP? - Cerebral Palsy Message Board

Even though I'm 19 years old, I've finally come to realize some abnormalities that I think may be CP. I did suffer head trauma as a baby, I believe it was between 1-2 years. I fell down non-carpeted stairs, but as I grew up, my mom tended to ignore little things. At one point, I was walking on my toes on one side, but that was corrected with PT. I've finally visited a neuro, but he wasn't really up to par with...well, anything. I have brisk reflexes on my right side (same side that I toe walked) my right foot is very rigid with foot drop (I wear an AFO). My right arm never swings but remains slightly bent with my thumb turned into sort of a fist. I remember these things from when I was a kid, too. I was always clumsy, tripping over my own feet. Also, I have this horrible pain in my left hip to the point where I'm unable to stand at times. I did have an MRI, but I need to have it seen by another neuro. The EMG that I had showed an inability of my muscles to relax. Could it be a mild type of CP that has been ignored for so long?

It sounds possible, I know that brain injury before two years old results in CP and "inability of muscles to relax" is basically the definition of spasticity

. Reflexes and tight muscles also sound like CP. Let us know what the other neuro says!

Is it possible that drs told your mom you have mild CP but she never mentioned it because she's "in denial"? (I only ask since you said your mom tended to ignore little problems.) Or maybe she didn't want you to know?

I agree with Steffers. It sounds like spastic hemiplegia.
