job issues

Well about a week and four days ago I started a job at an insurance agency it is processing appllications, I knew I was in trouble because the first day i was there they had me processing applications and I knew it was a job that after a few weeks I'd actually be good at. However starting this monday (just one week and 2 days after beiing hired) my boss told me that she didn't want to still have to correct my applications, at this point I was only making minor mistakes on things that I did not see before because we handled applications for three different carriers and for all the fifty different states so it was a lot to learn. Anyways they fired me yesterday. I knew I would have to go through a lot of office jobs before I do find one that is good for me but I don't know anymore, I domn't think my parents will be so nice to me this time about this, I don't even know what type of job to have this has been going on for 2 years now, I don't know what to do, I'm tired. Also I can not stand dealing with this anymore.

Re: job issues

Next time I would make sure to mention that you have CP (right AFTER you're hired) and that it will take you a little while to get adjusted. I can understand not wanting to mention it because it'll scare them off, but once they've already hired you you NEED to say something because it affects the way you perform. If you don't, they'll think you're just slow or are not working hard enough, whatever, and they have no reason NOT to fire you...or so they think, because they don't know that the disability laws apply to your case.

Re: job issues

Don't be ashamed or shy to tell anyone of your condition. You will surprised on how well people do understand. I have never had a job outside my home but I do run a in home daycare and I let my potential clients know rigt away that I have CP. Some people did not accept it so they never brought their kids to me, but that's ok! I know what I am capable of doing and I tell them that. Heck I have evan went as far as asking the parents to come and watch me so they know how I can handle the job. Good Luck!

Re: job issues

I live in Northern Alberta. There is lots of jobs in the oil and gas industy here, and they pay great wages. It sucks for me that I cannot get a part time job (im still a student in high school) because of my C.P. Most people think that I will need to get a career where i work 10 hours a day sitting at a desk typing on a computer... I have a feeling the future is going to suck.
