CP sufferer only dating other people with CP - Cerebral Palsy Message Board

Hi,
I am a 20 year old guy with CP. I just wonder if anyone else feels this, I only feel comfortable dating women with CP as they do not judge my problems and I can really understand them and they can really understand me. AB women just tend to look at my walk and think I am not date material and assume I must be stupid because of how I walk.

Does anyone else just feel better dating people like them rather than AB people?

I'm open to dating either/or. One plus about AB guys is that they generally have the strength to support me (I like to lean on people when I walk... parents won't spring for a wheelchair and my insurance company denied me!)

With CP guys, it's great because we have some common ground and can understand eachother, but it seems like with most of my CP friends all we ever talk about is CP. I hate that!

Well, I would probably date someone with CP...except I don't know anyone else with it. I've never gone to any groups or camps or anything, and I know one other disabled person (girl) from college...sooo that leaves me with AB guys, which hasn't gone so well for some of the same reasons you mentioned

Hey Jelly, that stinks about your wheelchair...I know when I applied for my electric one my PT wrote a letter explaining about easily tiring, etc., and gave her phone number...the insurance company called and grilled her but I think it helped me get approved. If you didn't do that the first time maybe you could and then reapply? Even a letter from your primary care doctor or someone would probably help.

AB women look down at my walking and stuff like I need a disabled toilet. But CP women just think of me as a person and not a DISABLED guy and nothing else.

Jelly, that is really poor that you can not get a chair funded.
Keep at them and they might change their mind
