I'm not looking to start a fight. I noticed some defensive remarks and I hope this will quiet them.

Everyone on this message board has a right to express their own opinion. It doesn't matter if they live in Africa, Antarctica, America or Argentina. It doesn't matter if the person posting on the board, has Cerebral Palsy, Cystic Fibrosis, Munchausen's syndrome or is able-bodied—they all have the same rights as anyone else.

Some of us, prefer not to use the descriptors mild, moderate or severe in reference to our Cerebral Palsy because they are subjective. Like the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure—well, one man's mild might be another man's moderate in the case of CP. Furthermore, there are others yet, who feel no case of CP is mild, especially as they are aging.

Just as some prefer not to use those labels, there are others who do use them and they should be free to use them as long as they are not using it to reference another person's condition (e.g., "Well, you're lucky you've got such a mild case.") Such references are considered offensive to some people, in the same way cripple or spaz is sometime viewed as offensive if used as a descriptor.

I also, don't find it inappropriate to suggest to persons who come here looking for information that some people may take offense to using those descriptors but I would never do so in a forceful manner. It would only be my personal opinion.

So, can we just go on? Let those set in there ways alone. And offer an alternative to those people who are looking for information about CP?
