Mild CP and Social security? - Cerebral Palsy Message Board

I have posted a few times on here. I was born with "mild" I have left hemiplegia. A friend of my mothers told me I should apply for social security. I am young enough to be able to apply under my fathers ss because he passed away (I am 21) when I had the doctor review me, he told me my left leg has 40% mobility from my knee to my ankle and zero in my foot. He also told me I have spasticity? I have been denied twice now, I have been told this can be common. In the letters I have recived I am told they recognize that I have cp but will not give me ss. Im curious to know if this has happend to anyone else with mild cp. Also I would like to know what the chances of my mother being able to apply for my fathers baised on that she is a widow who is cairing for a disabled child? from what i have read I have to have had this disability before the age 22. I was also diagnosed with depression, social anxiety and ptsd. Any advice? im just really frustrated and would like advice or know if this has happend to other people. thanks!

However, you can not receive SS if you make more then 900.00 a month.

Thanks for the link, Kelly! That was interesting. I know I'll never qualify for SS because my CP is too "mild", but it's interesting to see exactly what criteria they use

Your welcome! I have "mild" CP too - but work - can't wait to retire through (and I'm only 29 ha!) so I am always interested in Social Security!
