My non disabled nephew was not completely toilet trained until after 4 years old also. My nieces however were trained at 2 1/2 and 3. I'm not a mother but I lived with my sister when my nephew was potty training and was just as involved. My niece however did decide one day that she was going to "wer undies" when she was staying with me for a week while my sister was out of town I still remember the phoning my sister... "She's requesting UNDIES?!!" And my sister was, like "You have to do it if she's ready and wants to!" and I sent her back to my sister without diapers (and she is a
tiny girl, to the point that she had to tell me when so I could lift her up to the toilet!) It really is all up to them and they have to want to do it.
Can your son express interest in the idea? What about a book or a video?
Good luck to you!
