| Osteotomy OR Soft Tissue Releases - HELP!
I truly need some help here. My 10 year old daughter has a genetic disorder that has caused her to be severely delayed in all areas. She cannot sit, stand, walk, talk, etc. She recently has been having pain in her legs/hip area.
We saw an orthopedic surgeon at STL Children's hospital. The x-ray showed that one hip is out about 60% and the other about 10%. She recommended a major surgery including osteotomy, acetabuloplasty, and several soft tissue releases. I AM SHOCKED! We were really just looking for pain management.
I cannot imagine putting her through this surgery when she cannot understand a single thing about it, and will never have the ability to sit or walk, etc. I have read about some success of getting the hips back into place with just the soft tissue releases and bracing. The surgeon agreed to try this after some pressing, but was reluctant. It certainly wasn't her first choice. I know that surgeons like to do surgery, but we are looking for some compassion for our daughter's situation and minimally invasive techniques to relieve pain.
Any advice?
