It's hard for me to find jobs ... Ive worked before .. at a after school program & as a camp counselor but thats not what i wanna do ... i don't consider myself to be disabled but i know i am & i guess u can say my brain doesnt know i am .. i dont know but everything i wanna do is either impossible or very difficult to get into due to my disability anyone have this issue ??
I am a 22 year old female with mild CP. While I am still in college I will note physical jobs are difficult it can vary largely on what you want to do. I do believe strongly it is wrong to state the I'm disabled line as people will look at you as if something is wrong with you automatically. What does seem to work is turning your problem into a success, explaining that while you have a disability, look at the work you have already been able to do and your strong motivation. Most companies I know (aside from a strong resume, and correct skills for the job) love to see people who are motivated and "on fire"so to speak, to get the job with a strong work ethnic. While you may need to explain that you will likely face some physical difficulties note that it won't deter you or prevent you from trying your hardest to not only be a productive member of the company but to help it expand, etc.
As I like to say I'm not my disability, it's only part of what makes me a unique, and strong individual.
I have worked off & on since I was 22 y/o. My parents never pressured me before that time to get a job because I don't drive & never have. Most of the jobs I have had are Customer Service jobs (I can't stand for long periods of time). I have also worked as a Receptionist & done Data Entry.
I've been on Social Security Disability for about 12 years so I can only work PT (you can only make so much per month). I have been unemployed for almost 3 years now (my longest period of unemployment). Unemployment paid less than $50 a month when I was getting it because of Social Security Disability.
I try not to give up & get depressed but it can be hard some days. I have done surveys at home since '04/'05 to earn a little bit of extra $$$. Every little bit helps.
That is great that you don't give up.
It is really hard to find jobs now-a-days. I am hoping for a change soon.

Thanks. You sound like my husband. I know the first thing people look at when I walk into an interview is my cane. So I have to explain about my "physical challenge" first. Then we can get on w/ the interview. Some are willing to look past it & some aren't. I've had 4 interviews in the past 3 months. That's more than I've had in the past 6-9 months (Mar-Dec '12) combined. So I feel thankful about that.
I can only work PT. So makes even more difficult finding work. Most jobs aroud here have been FT or FT w/ commision (I'm not good at sales). I also know my strengths & weaknesses at jobs.
