Question Chemotherapy

My father has cancer of the oesophagus and is getting chemotherapy. The doctors told my father and I that they haven't caught the cancer in time as it has spread to his spine, but the chemotherapy should improve the symptoms and should prolong a good quality of life. Is this true? well, obviously it's true, but will the chemotherapy make a lot of difference? Does anyone know?
Thanks.

Afew months ago i went through 6 cycles of chemotherapy, and it wasnt really that hard at first, physically i felt good (except on the day i had the chemotherapy) i think the thing to worry about the most is the mental side of it, i was getting to the stage that i was so worked up about being sick after the chemo, i was becomeing nausias in the waiting room, but also ur doctor should have told you that chemotherapy effects every single person differently, he might go through it with no side effects at all, a girl i was having chemotherapy with, had chemo, and went out at night, because it didnt make her sick
Hope it goes well for you

Thanks, I suppose the best thing I can do for him is support him. Thanks for putting my mind at rest.
