Question delayed 10 month old

Hello all, My friend has a little girl who will be one the beginning of Feb. I am posting to ask a question. The little girl does not role, crawl and can barely sit up unassisted she is very unstable. The thing I find the strangest is that she does not seem to have much muscle tone in her leg, in fact when you hold her on your lap and stand her up she doesn't try to stand like most babies she just goes limp in her legs. Also, she is such a happy baby I have never seen her cry or fuss it's not like she just a good baby it's almost weird how good and happy she is. Her mom says that if she didn't make herself pay attention to her she would forget about her because she will just lay and play by herself all day long. She never seeks out attention but will look at you when you play with her so I don't know if she could be autistic or something. Just wondering if maybe any of you might be able to direct me to the right board for my questions to get answered?

Thanks

Re: delayed 10 month old

My girls (twins) will be One in Febuary also, and are crawling and babbling.
I dont know if there is a better board to get your question answered or not, but I do know it is DEFINILTY something that should be brought to the attention of a pediatrician. Many children can be slow to develop, but for a baby to lay and play and not need much attention at 10 months old, means there could be something wrong with her, either her muscle tone in her legs, or it is VERY possible there could be some neurological problem, or even something as simple as a vitamin deficincy. I think you should urge your friend to discuss it with the pediatrician, as this a baby this age should still be going in for well baby checks, and having a GOOD look over.

Good luck.

I have a friend who had a little girl who's behaviour was exactly the same it seems as your friend. Her little girl was the most placid baby I think I've ever come across. She also did not sit up unaided, roll around, crawl or walk until she was well over a year old. She'll be eight years old next year and she's still a very placid, happy child. There was nothing wrong with her, only she was the youngest of three children and had no need to move or do anything because the other two older children did it for her automatically. I think all children develop at different times. My daughter was crawling at just under 6 months and walking at 10 months (with no encouragement from me - I much preferred it when I could put her down in one place and know she'd be in the same place when I went to the loo!) Hope all is OK with your friend's child anyway.

She could have hypotonia, low muscle tone. My nephew has it mildly it effects his tounge and mouth(speech delays and inability to chew meats and other foods) and affects his fine motor(fingers, hands)
But reading about it, It said if a child has it more severe, it can effect its whole body.
As for autism, its hard to tell at that age. I am surprised a doctor would't have addressed the delays by now.
Hopefully she is just moving at her own pace. Let us know if you find anything out.
